Starting Solids

Once the twins turned 6-months-old we started solids and it has gone really well! We are trying a method called Baby-Led-Weaning, which means you start them on soft solid foods (skipping purees and rice cereal) and let them explore textures, tastes, and work on their motor skills. Eventually they will eat more and more on their own and gradually switch from milk to solids. So far they have had green beans, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, cucumber, avocado, chicken, whole grain pasta, spaghetti sauce, broccoli, and steel cut oatmeal. We have done a few purees that I've made just to try them out and help Andrew figure out how to move food around in his mouth. For those we have done butternut squash and carrots. So far they have liked everything we've offered! :)

**All solid foods are steamed until they are VERY soft and the boys are always being watched when they're eating so there is no choking risk. The pieces of food are also cut into appropriate sizes to eat and hold on to.**

  1. Loved all the photos, esp the last one b/c it's just like Joshua staring at Jessie while he eats! We have the same booster high chair and I love how easy it is to clean...all except the straps of course.
