With the severe drought we've been in, and then having a couple inches of rain in one weekend in December, the foundation of our house developed some issues and we started noticing cracks inside the house and doors that wouldn't open or close without the help of a crowbar. We found out that the foundation would need some repairs but we also needed to replace all of the sidewalks surrounding the house as they were sloping towards the home and causing drainage issues into our foundation. We figured that if we were going to do all of that work then we might as well expand the project to fix several other things about that yard that weren't working for us. The deck had a steep drop-off that didn't feel comfortable or seem safe (plus it burned your bare feet in the summer), there was a large area of concrete patio we never used, the side yards felt unusable, there were two bushes/trees that took up precious room needed for two little boys to play, and the yard felt really narrow due to the layout. Another issue we had was an over 40-foot pecan tree in our front yard that stained our driveway and the roots were damaging our sidewalk. So, on February 2nd we began renovations on our backyard! It'll take a few more weeks before we can move on to Parts 3 & 4 (finishing hardscaping and doing landscaping) but we wanted to share the progress!
